APM — Frequently Asked Questions

How does APM differ from PM?

PM applies management accounting techniques operationally. APM operates at the strategic level — you design performance systems, advise boards, and evaluate complex divisional structures across international organisations. APM requires more judgement and longer written answers.

Are calculations important in APM?

Yes, but they are secondary to analysis. Questions like ROI, RI, EVA, and transfer pricing do appear, but the primary challenge is interpreting the numbers and recommending improvements. Strong written skills are as important as numerical accuracy in APM.
